Welcome to Path to PreSales, the podcast that helps you unlock your potential and excel in your PreSales career. I am not your regular host, Matt Madden, who is on vacation right now – I am his AI co-host.

If you have followed the show thus far, then you know that the Path to PreSales podcast primarily delivers value through episodes where Matt Madden interviews individual contributors and leaders who are already thriving within PreSales organizations. The primary goal of these interviews is to highlight helpful lessons that can be learned from the discussion of our guests’ unique experiences and career journeys.

However, starting today, we will also aim to deliver value through specific lesson spotlights that will occasionally publish in between guest interviews, using the format that you are hearing now: a solo podcast show about a particular topic that we are confident will be helpful, or at the very least interesting food for thought, for anyone who is interested in PreSales and how to break into and thrive within these types of roles.

In today's episode, we'll explore how you can Put Yourself Ahead of the Curve in PreSales with this introduction to using ChatGPT for Skill Building.

what if I told you there's a tool out there that can not only help you sharpen your technical skills but also give you a competitive edge in your PreSales career? That's right; we're talking about ChatGPT, an AI-powered tool that's revolutionizing the way we learn and grow professionally. In this episode, we'll dive deep into how you can leverage ChatGPT to gain a critical advantage in your PreSales journey.

let’s start with a very brief Introduction to ChatGPT, to help set the stage for where we are going

ChatGPT is an AI language model developed by Open AI. It's designed to understand chat prompts and generate human-like text, and it has the potential to serve as an incredible learning resource for you. The advantages of using ChatGPT to boost your PreSales skills are numerous – it's accessible, efficient, and offers a new way of diving into a multitude of hands-on learning experiences.

Next, let’s talk about the area of skill building with ChatGPT that we believe can be most valuable for new and existing preSales professionals to tap into today.

If I were going to write a Step-by-Step Guide to Leveraging ChatGPT for PreSales Skills Development, the first area I would highlight for skill building is how ChatGPT can be an excellent resource for learning high-value technical skills. This includes skills such as Python, SQL, API usage, and cloud computing. Simply ask questions, seek code examples, or request explanations to deepen your understanding of these crucial skills.

Here are some examples exercises to consider testing within ChatGPT for technical skill building

To help you get started learning python and related libraries, you could: - Ask ChatGPT to explain basic Python concepts, such as data types, loops, and conditional statements.

- Request simple coding challenges to practice, like solving a Fibonacci sequence or finding prime numbers.

- Have ChatGPT walk you through common Python libraries, such as NumPy, pandas, and requests.

To help you get started learning how APIs work and how to use them effectively, you could: - Request a brief overview of APIs and their purpose

- Ask for examples of popular APIs and their use cases

- Have ChatGPT guide you through making a simple API call using Python's requests library

- Request best practices for working with APIs, such as handling errors, rate limits, and authentication

To help you get started learning SQL and database concepts, you could: - Ask ChatGPT to explain basic SQL concepts, like SELECT, INSERT, and DELETE statements

- Request simple SQL queries to practice, like retrieving specific data from a table or updating records

- Inquire about the differences between popular SQL databases, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQLite

- Have ChatGPT help you understand more advanced SQL concepts, like JOINs and subqueries

To help you get started learning about cloud computing, you could: - Request an overview of cloud computing and its benefits

- Ask ChatGPT to explain the differences between major cloud providers, such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform

- Inquire about common cloud computing services, like virtual machines, storage, and databases

- Have ChatGPT walk you through a simple cloud computing task, such as setting up a virtual machine or deploying a web application

Next, let’s talk about tips for Maximizing ChatGPT's Potential and best practices that are important to keep in mind when using ChatGPT as a learning resource (based on our own testing)

The first thing to call out here is that it is critically important to design effective prompts to get the most out of the AI.

This is commonly being referred to as "Prompt Engineering", a skillset that, in and of itself, is becoming highly valuable. you would be wise to learn it, to give yourself an advantage in today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, which seems hungry to incorporate large language model technology into every app and feature that it can.

Prompt engineering is the art and science of designing input queries or prompts that effectively communicate a user's intent to an AI language model like ChatGPT.

By crafting well-thought-out prompts, users can guide the AI to generate more accurate, relevant, and useful responses.

When working with ChatGPT, it's essential to understand how to write effective prompts. Here are some best practices to keep in mind: - Be clear and specific: To get the most accurate and helpful response, ensure that your prompt is clear and specific. Ambiguous or vague prompts can lead to equally vague or unhelpful responses from the AI.

- Provide context: Giving ChatGPT some context can significantly improve the quality of its responses. If you need an answer within a specific domain or context, make sure to include that information in your prompt. For example, if you're asking a question about Python programming, mention that you're looking for information related to Python.

- Break down complex questions: If you have a multi-part or complex question, it's often helpful to break it down into smaller, more manageable parts. By doing this, you'll be able to guide the AI through your thought process and receive more focused, coherent responses.

- Use step-by-step instructions: When asking the AI to perform a task or explain a process, consider providing step-by-step instructions in your prompt. This can help you obtain a more organized and detailed response.

- Experiment and iterate: ChatGPT's responses can vary depending on how you phrase your prompt. If you don't get the desired response on the first try, don't hesitate to rephrase your question or provide additional information to guide the AI toward a better answer.

- Set the response format: If you require a specific response format, such as a list, bullet points, or a summary, make sure to specify that in your prompt. This helps the AI understand how you'd like the information presented.

By following these best practices in prompt engineering, you can effectively communicate your intentions to ChatGPT and receive more accurate, helpful, and targeted responses, making your interactions with the AI more fruitful and efficient.

When using ChatGPT, always double-check the information you receive, especially when learning new technical concepts. Remember, it's a tool to assist your learning, not replace your own critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Lastly, here are some additional Uses of ChatGPT to Consider Exploring for Relevant Skill Building.

You could test using ChatGPT to improve your talk tracks and scripts for demos and demo videos

For example, you can provide samples of your current talk track and then ask ChatGPT to perform tasks such as re-writing the talk track. You can also ask it to apply narrative frameworks to the talk track that can help focus the messaging around value and the pains being solved by the product and specific features you are demoing. It can also help you tailor your presentation to specific customer needs and pain points.

Another use case for learning to explore is how ChatGPT can assist you with understanding product features and technical specifications.

With ChatGPT, you can easily dive into product features and technical specs by asking targeted questions. The AI can provide you with clear explanations, helping you to gain in-depth knowledge about products and solutions you are learning.

That brings us to the end of today’s show.

I hope this episode has given you some valuable insights into how you can leverage ChatGPT to supercharge your PreSales skills. Embrace the power of AI and use it to enhance your career and stay ahead in the competitive world of PreSales.
